How this semester grade calculator works

Four components × two fields each; edit weights to match your syllabus (participation, labs, projects all squeeze into the quiz/homework slots by re-entering their score/weight). Grade earned so far = Σ(score×weight)÷100 across the items with scores > 0. A 0 in an ungraded bucket is intentional — enter 0 and the live math ignores its weight. The tool normalizes over graded weight so early-semester students don't panic-misread a raw sum.

Frequently asked questions

How are weighted grades calculated?

Each component contributes score × weight ÷ 100 (homework at 92% × 20% = 18.4 grade points of a possible 20). Weights must sum to 100 — this tool normalizes the live % over graded weight so an unposted final doesn't misreport you as failing.

What if my syllabus drops the lowest quiz?

Model it by removing the dropped quiz's points: simplest is averaging your kept quizzes and entering that as the quiz score — the weight stays the same. Extra-credit items are just a >100 score, capped here.

Why does 'live percentage' ≠ semester grade?

Mid-semester, only part of the weight is graded. Live % answers 'what are these graded items telling me'; best-possible shows whether the semester outcome is still mathematically yours — the gap between them is your remaining runway.
